He has been linked with the ministry from a very young age. He has an integrative Engineer training in Food technology since 1981 and he obtained his license to work in Agriculture at the University of Puerto Rico that same year. He is an Engineer by profession and a Pastor by vocation.

His theological studies include a Bachelor's degree in Theology (summa cum laude) at the National Evangelical University of the Dominican Republic. A Master's degree in Pastoral Ministry at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois, USA, and a doctorate in Ministry at the Theological Seminary Fuller in Pasadena, California.

He was officially instated as pastor of the Emanuel Hispanic Church of the Nazarene in the City of Toronto in 1997, a thriving and vigorous congregation that preaches an honest message of the gospel and is transparent in its administration.
In 2001, Pastor Fernández began publishing his books, The Sign of the Nails (2001), A Rumour Is Heard (2003), Apocalypse Promptly (2004) and Kadesh-Barnea (2006), which have been tools for growth and affirmation for believers and non-believers. He has contributed three chapters to urban ministry training books in the United States and Canada and written hundreds of articles for newspapers and magazines.
In 2005, he set in motion an evangelistic project “Come and See”, which has become a strategic vision of the church to win and retain souls for the Kingdom of God , everyone involved is busy in the work of the Lord. He likes to share the word of God with other brethren and with his colleagues in ministry.
